Lutheran Women in Mission - LWML

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), also known as Lutheran Women in Mission, is an official auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Since 1942, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions.

Mission Statement

As Lutheran Women in Mission, we joyfully proclaim Christ, support missions, and equip women to honor God by serving others.

Vision Statement

The LWML is the leading group for LCMS women where each woman is welcomed and encouraged to use her unique God-given gifts as she supports global missions and serves the Lord with gladness.

At Joy Lutheran

Here at Joy Lutheran, we have started a local group, Joy-Full Lutheran Women in Mission, to be part of the national organization. We support missions on the last Sunday of the month by collecting mite offerings (see right for more information on more information). We plan to have events so the women at Joy can further support missions and serve others locally.

Our local group is part of the Lake Washington Zone, that comprises of local groups as far north as Bellevue and as far south as Auburn, along I-405, and in the Seattle/Kent  area, south of I-90 and north of Federal Way.

Lake Washington Zone is one of 11 zones that make up the Washington-Alaska District.

Mite Explanation and History

Based on the Biblical account of the widow's mite (Luke 21:1–4), the Mite Box is intended for regular contributions of "mites" — offerings above and beyond the support given to congregations and the LCMS. Mite Box contributions amount to millions of dollars that fund district and national mission grants and implement the LWML program.

Look for our “Big Mite Box” display to get your own Mite Box. Mite offerings are collected on the last Sunday of each month. 75% of the donation goes for the work of the LWML in the Washington-Alaska District. 25% goes to the work of the LWML at the national level.
